Richmond Red Devil sprinter Marquis Johnson will be the sole area representative at the State Track and Field Meet for boys, to be run June 4th. Johnson punched his ticket for the prestigious event by placing third in the 100 meter. He was electronically timed at a blazing fast 11.05 seconds.
Center Grove High School ran away from the field to win the meet with 137 points, 53 points more than second place Columbus North.
Richmond scored nine points to finish 17th in the final standings. Hagerstown and Northeastern tied for 27th, with two points each. Top eight finishers in the event scored for their teams, with the top three moving on to state.
Top eight finishers for Wayne County athletes include:
Johnson third, 100 meter; Gunner Kovach seventh, high jump, with a leap of 6’ 4;” and the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Drew Hardwick, Darius Hogg, Phoenix Michaels, and Johnson eighth, with a time of 44:43.
The 4 x 800 meter relay Quentin Osborne, Joseph Auker, Kaden Young and Carter Jenkins, Hagerstown, finished 8:26.01.
Chase Cates, Northeastern, seventh in the 3200 meter, 10:03.15.
The State Track and Field meet will be held at Robert C. Haugh Complex on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington.
