After avenging a regular season loss in their sectional opener on Tuesday against Greenfield-Central, Richmond saw their season come to an end at the hands of a young Mount Vernon team in their semifinal round sectional game played on Friday, Feb. 7 on the Lady Marauders’ home court. 

The game was close early. Mount Vernon held a slim 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter before holding Richmond to 2 points in the second quarter to build a 20-10 halftime lead. 

The Lady Red Devils never recovered.

Richmond scored 17 points in the third quarter, their most productive quarter of the night, but fell further behind, trailing 39-27 entering the fourth quarter. Mount Vernon blew the game open in the fourth quarter to win 52-31 and advance to the championship game on Saturday to face Pendleton Heights. 

Gabby Thomas scored a game high of 21 points for Mount Vernon and Zoey Wood scored 20 points. Amyannah Tucker led Richmond with 13 points. 

It was the last time in a Richmond basketball uniform for seniors Maren Bolser, Kiarra Handley, Amari Jackson, Shaylon Sexton, Amyannah Tucker and Cami Turpin.
