The Northeastern Lady Knights, ranked sixth in the 2A poll, traveled to play the Yorktown Lady Tigers on Thursday, Nov. 13.
The Lady Knights overcame early foul trouble to build a 23-21 lead at halftime and extended the lead to 38-33 after three quarters. The Lady Tigers battled back in the fourth quarter to force some costly Northeastern turnovers, and timely three-pointers allowed them to take a two-possession lead with slightly more than a minute to play.
Karri Gammon responded with a conventional three-point play and, after a Yorktown turnover with 30 seconds left in regulation, Brooklynne Adams hit a game-tying basket to send the game to overtime.
The foul problems for the Lady Knights came back to haunt them in the extra period. Ady Kircher, Gammon and Sammi Kircher all fouled out and the Lady Tigers pulled away to a 58-52 win.
Northeastern head coach Cody Dudley observed after the contest that playing in games like this will only help his team down the road.
Ady Kircher led the Knights with 16 points, and Gammon scored 14. Lilly Sylvester led the Tigers and all game scorers with 22 points, Olivia Conklin added 16 and Alexis Fields scored 11.
