The Northeastern girls basketball team opened its season on Thursday, Nov. 6, with a road trip to play the Adams Central Lady Jets. Northeastern, winners of 24 games last season and ranked eighth in the 2A preseason poll, picked up a 70-53 win. 

Ady Kircher kick-started the Knight offense by scoring the first seven points of the game to give the Knights a lead they never surrendered. The Knights led by 13 points after one quarter, but the Jets made several runs and trimmed their deficit to 11 points at halftime. 

The Knights scored the first 13 points of the third quarter to build a 20-point lead at 44-22 and weren’t seriously threatened again.

Kircher led the Knights with 33 points, six steals and four assists. Karri Gammon recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Mackenzie Johnson scored 10 points. 

The Jets also placed three players in double figures. Ava Stafford hit six three-pointers for 18 points, Demi Landis scored 12 points and Kate Fisher added 10 points.
