The Hagerstown baseball team had a chance to clinch outright first place in the Tri-Eastern Conference for the second straight season, but the Knights had other plans. Northeastern scored two runs in the first inning, added two runs in the third inning and held off visiting Hagerstown’s comeback effort to win the May 14 game 5-3.
The Tigers fought back to score three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but they left two runners on base. They then left three runners on base without scoring in the sixth inning before the Knights added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
Karson Haager, Gavin Johnson and Jarrett Leitner each collected two hits for the Knights. Leitner was also the winning pitcher. Fletcher Callahan had two hits for the Tigers. Nolan Cheeseman was the losing pitcher.
Hagerstown has clinched a share of the TEC title. Northeastern has a TEC game remaining on Tuesday, May 19, against Lincoln. If the Knights defeat Lincoln, Northeastern and Hagerstown will be TEC co-champions.
