When you’re hot, you’re hot. In the second quarter of their Tri-Eastern Conference game played on Friday, Sept. 20, at Union City the Northeastern Knights were sizzling.
The Knights were clinging to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, they scored an incredible 56 points to take a 63-22 lead at halftime and generate a running clock in the second half. The Knights have scored more points in a game, but never more in a single quarter.
The Knights went deep into their depth chart in the second half before coasting to a 70-28 win.
Colton Creech turned in a monster game for the Knights. Creech caught seven passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns. Creech also ran for 94 runs and two more touchdowns. Knights quarterback Blake Waters put on an aerial show, throwing for 341 yards and four touchdowns — three to Creech, and one to Trent Deloney. Riley Isaacs, Marshall Phillips, Dylan Ross, Zane Schneider and Logan White also scored for the Knights.
Schneider was the leading tackler for the Knights with eight. Phillips was next with six. Creech, Koleson Pennington and White each had an interception.
The Knights will have a showdown meeting on Friday, Sept 27, when they host Tri-Eastern Conference coleader Centerville. Both teams are state ranked in 2A.
