The Northeastern Knights improved to 2-0 Monday, April 3 with a 9-2 win over potential sectional opponent Shenandoah in a game played at Raider Field.

Both teams have the pitching and hitting to be serious sectional contenders, but in this match-up Northeastern, behind a stellar pitching performance from Kaiden White, was the better team.

Hard throwing sophomore Collin Osenbugh, the starting pitcher for the Raiders, has already committed to a high-level college program. Osenbaugh struck out 8 batters in the 3 innings he worked, but the Knights were selective at the plate, drawing 2 walks, reaching base on an error and a hit batter, and collecting 4 hits to take a 5-1 lead after 3 innings.

Already leading 5-1, the Knights exploded for 4 more runs in the top of the sixth inning, including a 2 RBI double from Logan White to break the game open.

The Raiders scored a single run with two outs in bottom of the seventh inning before Logan White went to the mound in relief of Kaiden White and recorded the final out of the game via strike out.

Trevor Burkhart, Keaton Mikesell, Logan White each had 2 hits for the Knights.

Knight head coach Dave Baker was pleased with his team’s play. “I thought Kaiden (White) pitched a great game tonight,” Baker said. “When I took him out with two outs in the seventh inning, he told me he could get the final out, but he had already thrown 111 pitches, so I decided to go to Logan (White) to get the final out. We are glad to get out of here with a victory over a potential sectional opponent. Our hitters were selective at the plate and once we reached base, we were aggressive. Everybody that played tonight contributed.”
