The Northeastern baseball team opened regular-season play at New Haven on Tuesday, March 31, with a 12-1 win. The 3A Bulldogs, runners-up for the state championship in basketball, were no match for the Knights. The game was halted after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Bulldogs, which are members of the Northeast 8 Conference, were baffled by Knight senior hurler Riley Isaacs, who turned in a complete game performance to earn the win. Isaacs was supported by a Knight offense that produced 12 hits from eight different batters.

Kaleb Kress, Jarrett Leitner, Max McClain, Kaleb Moore and Logan Seal each collected two base hits for the Knights, and Moore and Aiden Shaffer both hit home runs.

Scoring by inning was not available.

Northeastern (1-0)   12

New Haven (0-1)       1

Northeastern hits: Isaacs, Kress (2), Leitner (2), McClain (2), Moore (2), Seal (2), Shaffer.
