The Northeastern softball team defeated Centerville 5-2 in the championship game of the Winchester softball sectional on Thursday, May 28. It was the first time since 2017 that the Northeastern softball program has won a sectional championship in softball — only the second time in school history.
After upsetting 2A second-ranked Hagerstown two days prior, the Lady Knights were focused on the task at hand from the opening pitch.
Zella Cook pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and striking out seven to pick up the win. Cook helped her own cause by collecting two hits. Karri Gammon and Isabella Peed also had two hits for the winners. Jocelyn Allen drove in three runs.
The Lady Knights will host Eastern Hancock in the regional on Tuesday, June 2, with a trip to the Forest Park semistate on the line.
