Richmond High School freshman Keena Barker will be the sole area representative in the state track and field meet for girls to be run June 3. The event will be held at Robert C. Haugh Complex on the campus of Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana.
Barker held off Lanie Nicholson from South Ripley High School, by slightly more than a second, for third place in the 1600 meter run Tuesday, at the IHSAA Regional hosted by Franklin Community High School.
The 1600 meter race during the state meet is tentatively scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m.
Center Grove High School overwhelmed the field to win the regional. The Lady Trojans scored an incredible total of 116.5 points, 48.5 points more than second place finisher Columbus North.
The Richmond Lady Red Devils scored 11 points to tie for 13th place in the final standings with Indian Creek. Centerville and Northeastern each scoring two points to tie for 25th and Hagerstown finished 27th with one point.
The top eight finishers in each event scored for their team. The top three finishers moved on to state finals.
Top eight finishers for Richmond: Barker third, 1600 meter (5:20.69), Savanna Blair sixth, 3200 meter (11:54.67), and Elizabeth Graham seventh, 800 meter (2:26.30). Total 11 points
Top eight finishers for Centerville: Kaylynn Wolfal seventh, 1600 meter (5:34.31). Total 2 points
Top eight finishers for Northeastern: Marissa Cates eighth, 3200 (12:04.01), and Naleya Kinney eighth, long jump (15’ 9”). Total 2 points
Top eight finishers for Hagerstown: Madison Pruitt eighth, high jump (5’ 1”). Total 1 point.
