RICHMOND, Ind. – The Indiana University East men’s basketball team advanced to the semifinals of the River States Conference Championship with a victory against Midway University on Feb. 26.
Bishop Smith scored a game-high 29 points to pass Tyler Fangman (2011-15) to become IU East’s all-time leading scorer with 1,918 points in his career. Fangman finished with 1,893.
The No. 2 seed from the East Division, the Red Wolves must travel to Indiana University Southeast, the top seed from the West for the next round. IU Southeast defeated Ohio Christian University 93-78 at home in its quarterfinal contest. The Red Wolf-Grenadier semifinal will be played Feb. 29 at 3 p.m.
With the quarterfinal win on Lingle Court, the Red Wolves are 21-10. Midway finishes the season at 15-15.
In addition to Smith, the Red Wolves had three others in double figures. Jehu Lafeuillee had 21 points to go with a game-high 19 rebounds.
Keating Rombach and Garrett Silcott both finished with 19 points. Silcott led IU East with six assists and four steals.
Kwon Evans topped the Eagles with 21 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Smith passed Fangman with a free throw at the 10:22 mark of the opening period as the Red Wolves led 21-16.
WOMEN
NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Indiana University East women’s basketball team finished the season with an 85-73 loss at Indiana University Southeast in the quarterfinal round of the River States Conference Championship on Feb. 26.
The fourth seed from the East Division, IU East had four players in double figures led by Addie Brown’s 14 points.
Lauren Lambdin topped IU Southeast with 27 points and five assists.
The Red Wolves end the season at 10-21, while the Grenadiers, the tournament’s No. 1 seed from the RSC West Division, are 19-11.
Kamiylah Bomar and Megan Harlow each had 12 points, while MaKayla Blount tossed in 11.
Reagan Hune led IU East with 13 rounds as she scored eight points.
