Northeastern High School senior Heather Crull, a world-class athlete, made history during the USMC Junior Nationals last week when she became a two-time national champion at the event held in Fargo, North Dakota.
Wrestling in the 105-pound class, Crull stormed through the competition going 6-0 in her matches and outscoring her opponents by a combined 51-0. She won every match in the first period either by fall or by technical fall.
When Crull won the championship match, held on Sunday, July 14, she became the first wrestler in Indiana state history to win multiple Junior women’s championships.
Two-time Olympian Kayla Miracle (Bloomington, Indiana, Culver Academy) also won two titles, but they were in different age divisions.
Other previous Indiana Junior champions include two-time Olympian Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Indiana, Penn High School) and 2016 U17 World bronze medalist Alara Boyd (Muncie, Indiana, Yorktown High School).
Northeastern High School sophomore Olivia Crull participated in the U16 competition. She was one of 80 wrestlers in the 106-pound weight class. Olivia Crull compiled a 3-2 record during her competition and gained valuable experience.
