Reid Health, Birth to Five and Bridges for Life will continue helping the Wayne County Health Department work toward improved community health outcomes during 2026.

The three organizations were selected for Health First Indiana funding next year, and the Wayne County Board of Health approved their contracts during its Dec. 9 meeting. The next day, Wayne County’s commissioners also approved the contracts.

The health department plans to carry over $200,000 from this year’s state award to pay next year’s contracts. The state slashed 2026 Health First Indiana funding.

Reid Health will receive $76,946.71, Bridges for Life $64,200.65 and Birth to Five $58,852.65. The bulk of each contract is for personnel, with some earmarked for supplies.

The board previously approved the selection of the three organizations and the monetary amounts. Each organization agreed to accept less than their original requests.

Illnesses

Dr. Jennifer Bales, the county health officer, said influenza-type illnesses remain low; however, peaks are expected before the end of March.

COVID-19 cases have increased, but remain less than March and June peaks. Bales said hygiene, such as covering coughs and sneezes, frequent hand-washing, and cleaning frequently touched surfaces, helps prevent spread.

Flu and COVID immunizations are available through the health department.

Board actions
