Hagerstown Junior-Senior High School principal David Tyner is resigning.
On May 5, Tyner announced his intention to leave his position at the end of the school year, said Kyle Barrentine, superintendent of Nettle Creek schools.
Tyner’s resignation will go to the school board for acceptance on Wednesday, May 12, Barrentine said.
Barrentine said Tyner’s decision came as a surprise.
“He came to a decision he thought was best for his family,” Barrentine said. “You have to respect that.”
Barrentine said Tyner has not been disciplined and is not under a disciplinary investigation.
Tyner was under contract with Nettle Creek through the end of the 2021-2022 school year, Barrentine said.
Tyner was hired in June 2018, coming to Hagerstown with 20 years in education including serving as assistant principal at New Castle High School.
The job opening already has been posted to the school corporation website, nettlecreekschools.com. The target start date for Tyner’s replacement is July 1.
Barrentine said the corporation wants to hire someone soon so that they can be in place well before the start of school.
Other Nettle Creek schools’ job openings include two elementary school teachers, sixth grade math, language arts, speech language pathology, special education and substitute bus drivers.
