As United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, the Wayne County 4-H Fair marks two significant milestones of its own.

Volunteers are celebrating 175 years of fairs in the county, and 50 of those years at today’s fairgrounds, 861 N. Salisbury Road in Richmond.

On May 20, organizers released this year’s schedule for the June 20-27 fair at wayneco4hfair.com.

A few new highlights include daily glassblowing demonstrations plus Daniel Boone and Abraham Lincoln living history programs.

As always, livestock shows, youth projects and ag competitions showcase the hard work of 4-H members and their leaders and families.

Other features include motorsports and grandstand activities such as demolition derbies, truck and tractor pulls, rodeo competition, mud bogs and dirt drag racing, including evening demolition derby (June 20), truck and tractor pull (June 22), 3 Bar J Rodeo (June 24), mud bog (June 26), and dirt drag racing (June 27).

Free entertainment will include a variety of music and talent contests, including Roadhouse Rhythm Kings (7:30 p.m. June 20), bluegrass/gospel performances (3-8 p.m. June 21), plus an outdoor showing of “Goat” (June 20) and fireworks at dark June 26.

Beyond the midway, families will find animal encounters, obstacle racing, contests and hands-on activities including Wolfe Bros. Obstacle Racing (June 21), frog jumping (June 21), Silly Safaris animal shows (June 23 and 25), Books in the Barn (June 25) and Touch-A-Truck demonstrations (June 23).
