Inspectors discovered two critical and three noncritical violations during recent routine inspections of local food establishments.

The violations include the presence of rodents and other pests, unsanitary employee practices, dirty equipment and the presence of mold in food areas. 

Establishments are required to post the most recent routine inspection form adjacent to the front public entrance for potential customers to view.

Wayne County Health Department employees collected these concerns between Dec. 21 and Jan. 7.  

Critical violations

  • Jan. 7: Holiday Inn, 6000 National Road E., Richmond. One critical: Presence of rodents or other pests found in the storage room. To be corrected that day.
  • Jan. 7: Roscoe’s Coffee Bar & Tap Room, 416 N. 10th St., Richmond. One critical: Off-duty employee drinking coffee in the food prep area. Manager advised she would retrain employees. Corrected during inspection. 

Noncritical violations

  • Jan. 7: Fifth Street Coffee & Bagels, 211 S. Fifth St., Richmond. One noncritical: Dirty ice machine. To be corrected by Jan. 8. 
  • Jan. 2: Speedway, 298 E. Main, Hagerstown. One noncritical: Walk-in cooler fan guards soiled with a mold-like substance. To be corrected by Jan. 9.
  • Jan. 2: Subway, 4340 National Road E., Richmond. One noncritical: No thermometer provided at time of inspection. To be corrected by Jan. 4. 

Follow-ups

  • Jan. 2: Lumpy’s, 20 S. Foote St., Cambridge City. Items corrected.
  • Jan. 2: Tiffin Indian American Restaurant, 1480 N. State Road 1, Cambridge City. Item corrected.
  • Dec. 27, 2024: Buffalo Wild Wings, 4661 National Road E., Richmond. Items corrected.

Pre-operational

  • Dec. 27: Burger King, 1816 National Road W., Richmond. OK to open after front-end remodel.

Complaints

  • Jan. 7: Fifth Street Coffee & Bagels, 211 S. Fifth St., Richmond. Complaint regarding employee smoking, then not washing hands before starting food prep. No issue found at time of inspection.

Inspections

Wayne County Health Department inspects local stores, restaurants, schools and other food providers at least twice yearly. If any critical violations are found, inspectors follow up to ensure the establishment has made the necessary corrections. They also make visits if members of the public submit complaints.
