Bio highlights: IU East bachelor’s degree (Business/Accounting); Richmond Senior High School Diploma; 16 Years Service to our community as Wayne Township Trustee; 20 Years Restaurant Management
Reasons you ran: I want to focus on finding ways and resources to helping more to help women and children in our community. I hope to be re-elected for another term to ensure that we have the resources and support from our community so that the projects that we created over the years will continue.
Top priorities: Getting more people to understand what the trustee does and what resources we have available. Helping more people learn long-term ways to learn about budgeting / setting goals. Get the lower level of our office building in shape.
Specific skills: I bring to the office the ability to develop a solid team of staff that cares about people, works together, and wants our work to succeed. I have many years working with people and I am good at communicating with people.
Should continue: I want to continue to create ways to provide resources and maintain the support we receive that allows us to continue extra support from community financial support. I think that when we create programs that are making a difference that people can see, we are able to get support from local churches, businesses and other groups. We do well with that because there is passion in the resource and people are drawn to participate and / or donate to the activity.
Needs to change: The current situation with the funding challenges has been difficult to grasp. I look forward to many of the changes. I will be willing to do whatever is needed as these changes roll out.
Accept election results: I will.
Funding strategies: We maintain a no-debt commitment that provides a lesser amount of potential stress with our budget and levy. We plan to look for funding from grants and local support to continue to provide funding outside as much as possible. The effects of the federal and state funding changes are still not clear in how they will eventually reduce our funding. I will be looking at the budgets closely and making the best choices to maintain our funding.
Engaging the public: I plan to have Township Trustee information meetings to help residents what we do in the Township office and in our community. I will also hold meetings focused on the non-profits and agencies to help them understand what resources and how we can work together to help more people.
Other comments: As Trustee, the many things we do for our community are diverse and meaningful: Care of 5 Pioneer Cemeteries; Laundry Project; Indigent Burials / Cremation; Referrals and Budget Counseling; Dwyer Community Center; Assistance with Basic Needs; Diaper Project; Women’s Feminine Hygiene Project; Representative Payee Services; SHIP Services; Partnered with ICAP for winter heat, and more.
