The Richmond Red Devil baseball team ushered in the Mike Medley coaching era on Wednesday, April 2, by hosting longtime rival Connersville at McBride Stadium. 

It was a back-and-forth battle. 

The teams were tied at 2-2 after the first inning. The Spartans took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning. The Devils scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to build a 5-3 lead when Wyatt Kier doubled and Malachi Moore and Dominick McKinley also reached base, and all three scored. The Spartans lashed out six hits and scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Gavin Brannon delivered the big blow with a double. The Red Devils scored single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, leaving them one run short.
