The Richmond football team traveled to Marion on Friday, Oct. 3, for a North Central Conference game with the Giants. Trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, the Red Devils put together their most productive quarter of the season, scoring 28 points to build a 28-7 halftime lead.
The Giants came back to make a game of it, but they missed the point after kick after their last touchdown to come up a point short.
The Devils had a balanced attack with 180 yards passing and 201 rushing. Thomas Stargell completed eight of 22 passing attempts for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Jai Allen connected on his only pass attempt for 60 yards.
Allen was also the leading rusher with 137 yards on 18 carries. Stargell gained 33 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns. Syn’cere Russell was the leading receiver with two catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. Tyziyah Stubbs and Allen also caught touchdown passes.
Defensively, Jayvonne Burdette led the Devils with 14 tackles including a sack. Maurice Hibbler had 12 tackles and Mason Long had nine.
The Red Devils will return home on Friday, Oct. 10, to host the Anderson Indians.
