Wayne County Auditor Mark Hoelscher wants residents to save money when they pay property taxes next year.
Therefore, he stresses that residents should ensure they have filed for deductions and credits for which they are eligible. For those owning their property by Dec. 31, the deadline to file is Jan. 15.
Available deductions and credits are:
- Homestead/supplemental deduction.
- Over 65 credit/over 65 circuit breaker credit.
- Blind/disabled credit.
- Partial disabled veteran deduction and total disabled veteran deduction.
Residents can verify they are receiving homestead deductions through the Beacon GIS website, wwn.to/wcbeacon, by searching for their property by address or owner name. It is not necessary for anyone who previously has filed for a deduction or credit to file again.
Anyone with questions about the deductions and credits should call the auditor’s office at 765-983-9317 to verify eligibility and/or if the deductions and credits are being applied. Those needing to file for a deduction or credit must do so in person at the auditor’s office on the upper level of the Wayne County Administration Building, 401 E. Main St., Richmond.
“I want to make their taxes as low as possible,” Hoelscher said.
