Richmond is taking a step toward demolishing the former Warfield Oil property.

The city’s Board of Public Works and Safety approved a $3,200 contract with Patriot Engineering during its Feb. 26 meeting. Patriot will conduct a pre-demolition survey for asbestos-containing materials.

Matt Keller, the city’s director of public operations and engineering, said the survey is state mandated before demolition can occur at 1102 N. F St. He said a realistic time table for demolition is the third quarter of 2026 because funding must be developed. That funding could come from the city’s Redevelopment Commission, he said.

In another action, the board approved road closures for the annual Girls Inc. 5K run and walk that begins and ends at Middlefork Reservoir. Roads would be closed from 7:30 to 11 a.m. May 16.

Sylvan Nook Drive would close from Reid Parkway to Oak Park Drive, with the race route also following Oak Park Drive, Autumn Way and University Boulevard.
