Republicans who want to choose who will be named to town councils in Centerville and Economy can do so this week during town conventions.
Dublin, Milton, Fountain City and Richmond will have an election in November, while Centerville and Economy will have a town convention this month because there is competition within a political party for a town office.
Centerville Republicans have planned a convention at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Centerville Christian Church’s Family Center, 106 E. Main St.
Only Centerville residents who took a Republican ballot in the last primary in which they voted will have the opportunity to nominate a candidate for Ward 5.
Two Republicans have filed for the same seat – challenger Freda Harvey and incumbent Mark Tucker.
The town’s other uncontested candidate filings are: Clerk-treasurer Susan Dillman; and council: Ward 1, James Bullen; Ward 2, Gary Holbert; Ward 3, Dan Wandersee; Ward 4, Jack Bodiker.
In Economy, Republicans will pick three of four candidates for council at-large: Jim Lewis, Bruce Oesterling, Shirley Williams and Bernard Davis. Their convention starts at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at Economy’s town hall.
