Centerville’s town council met for a work session Tuesday, July 29, to hear updates from department heads and approve several actions.
Some of the town’s most public spaces are getting updates, with preparations underway for the 2025 Archway Days festival Aug. 22-23, and with the completion of Indiana Department of Transportation’s work at the intersection of Morton Avenue and Main Street, which included new traffic signals.
Council approved an ordinance to adjust the police department’s staffing structure, titles and chain of command, and a second ordinance to include the new assistant chief of police position in the compensation schedule for 2025’s budget. They also welcomed officer Garrick Sweet, a new school resource officer at Centerville-Abington Community Schools.
Council granted the UPS facility in Centerville permission to use town-owned property near the water tower for temporary parking during an expansion construction project.
Council members advanced plans to issue a revenue bond for the town’s water works to conduct various water improvement projects.
Estimates to repair both well houses have come in at over $65K, with plans to perform those fixes next year.
Council’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, in the Centerville municipal building, 220 E. Main St., Centerville. The public may attend.
