The Seton Catholic basketball team traveled to Mount Summit on Tuesday, Jan. 28, for a nonconference game against Blue River Valley. It was the first time this season that the Cardinals faced a potential sectional opponent. The Cards got good shots early that did not fall, trailing 9-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run, but the Vikings fought back and only trailed 24-19 at halftime.

The only similarity between the Seton Catholic team that played the first half and the one that played the second half was the uniforms they wore. The Cardinals started the third quarter outscoring the Vikings 20-2 and expanded their lead to 52-25 entering the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter, taking a 66-30 win. The final margin was the largest of the game.

Jason Moynihan led the Cardinals and all-game scorers with 22 points; Jackson Feist and Eric Parker each scored 16 points. Iziah McAbee led the Vikings with 9 points.

Cardinal head coach Josh Jurgens said that his team did not play well to start the game.

“We were just going through the motions early. We looked like a team that had not played a game in 10 days,” Jurgens said. “We had to wake the kids up at halftime. We put on a press in the second half to get them to play harder, and they responded. When we are good, we are good, and in the second half we were very good. We get fired up any time we play against a potential sectional opponent.”
