The 1A fifth-ranked Seton Catholic Cardinal volleyball team took care of business on Saturday, Oct. 19, during play in the Monroe Central sectional. The Cards swept the host school in their semifinal match in the morning and then came back Saturday night to sweep Blue River Valley in the championship match. The Cardinals, who are the last Wayne County team standing in state volleyball tournament play, ran through three matches in their sectional without losing a set. 

Semifinal match: Seton Catholic 3, Monroe Central 0

The match proved to be a mismatch. The Cardinals won each set by a larger margin. In the first set they took a 25-19 win. In the second set they won 25-14 and in the third set they unleashed their power game to win 25-7. It was the 24th win of the season for the Cardinals. The Bears ended their season with a record of 4-26. 

Championship match: Seton Catholic 3, Blue River Valley 0 

The Cardinals faced Blue River Valley in the championship match. The Vikings easily defeated Union in their semifinal match to earn their spot in the title match. Blue River took the Cardinals to four sets in their regular season match on Aug. 26 before falling by the score of 3-1. On Saturday, the focused Cardinals never allowed them to gain any traction. The Cardinals won in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-21 to improve to 25-8 on the season and advance to the Elwood regional where they will play the 21-11 Rossville Hornets, the 28th-ranked team in 1A, on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1:00 pm.
