Citing flood damage to Creitz Park and the need to prioritize community rebuilding, officials have canceled the 2026 Canal Days event originally planned for September.
Cambridge City Area Chamber of Commerce posted on social media Aug. 17 that, “at this time, our downtown and many areas of our community need our attention, support, and resources. We believe the best way we can honor Cambridge City right now is by coming together, helping our neighbors, supporting our local businesses, and focusing on the recovery ahead.”
The annual festival and event, typically held on Main Street, had already been significantly modified to accommodate changing traffic patterns and safety concerns caused by Interstate 70 widening work. Officials had worked in recent weeks to develop an alternate site and parade route using Creitz Park.
“When the time is right, we will gather, celebrate, and make new memories together once again,” the post said.
