Hagerstown and Centerville, two powerhouse softball programs, moved toward a tournament matchup with blowout wins in first-round games in the Centerville Softball Invitational on Friday, April 17, on the Centerville diamond. Hagerstown defeated Rushville 16-1 and Centerville defeated Richmond 24-1.
Game one: Hagerstown 16, Rushville 0
The 2A seventh-ranked Lady Tigers sent a message by scoring 11 runs in their first at bat and coasted to a 16-0 win in a game halted after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. Sophomore Cameron Robertson collected three hits, including two home runs, and drove in seven runs to lead the Hagerstown offense. Aaliyah Anderson, Payton Cones, Harper Fisher and Mackenzee Johnson each collected two hits.

The Lady Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard with a 12-run first inning and were never seriously challenged in the game, which was halted after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. The Richmond run came in the top of the second inning when sophomore Kyla Rogan launched a home run, her first of the season. Paisey Steffee homered for Centerville. Complete statistics were not available for Centerville.
