The Centerville boys basketball team entertained perennial power Delta in a game played on Saturday, Dec. 6. Coming off the emotional high of beating Northeastern two days earlier, it was a challenge for the Bulldogs.

Delta, a team that has made it to the semi-state round of the state tournament in each of the last three seasons, is used to playing in big games.

The Eagles took a 14-12 lead at the end of the first period before the Bulldogs dialed up their defensive pressure to slow the Eagles’ offense, allowing the Bulldogs to ease in front 24-23 at halftime.

The Bulldogs started to impose their will on the Eagles in the third quarter and built a lead of 39-30 entering the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs maintained their composure in the fourth quarter, never allowing the Eagles to cut their deficit below five points, en route to a 58-50 win. The Bulldogs overcame a cold-shooting night with a strong defensive effort to improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 against future Eastern Crossroads Conference opponents. The last time the Bulldogs started 4-0 was during the 2011-12 season.

Seven Bulldogs scored, led by Landyn Keiser with 16 points and Shea Hollendonner with 13 points. Ryan Lynch led the Eagles with 16 points and Chase Phillips scored 12.

The Bulldogs will travel to Southport for their next game in the Southport Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 14, for a rematch of last year’s regional game with 2A No. 1 Parke Heritage that will draw statewide attention. The tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
