Centerville and Northeastern squared off in the opening game of 2A sectional number 44 at Winchester on Thursday, May 29. The Bulldogs surprised the Knights, winning the game 9-8. In the regular-season meeting between the Tri-Eastern Conference rivals in April, the Knights won 9-2. But Thursday, the Bulldogs turned the tables, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead for good.
The Bulldogs, who outhit the Knights 9-8, overcame four errors to pull the upset. Grady Blake collected three hits to lead Centerville, and Jaxon Lear and Landen Schlotterbeck each had two hits.
Kaiden White collected three hits for the Knights, and Kaleb Kress had two hits.
It was the last game in a Northeastern baseball uniform for Knight seniors Blake Waters, Kaiden White and Logan White.
With the win, the Bulldogs advanced to face Shenandoah on Saturday, May 31, in the semifinal round, for the right to advance to the championship game.
