Centerville senior Devon Whaley won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 54.96 seconds to earn a trip to the state meet.
Teams from Centerville, Hagerstown and Richmond traveled to New Palestine High School on Thursday, Feb. 19.
Divers who finished in the top four advanced to the diving regional to be held at Brownsburg on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Swimmers who finished ninth through 16th in the preliminary round moved to the consolation round on Saturday, Feb. 21. The top eight finishers in the prelims advanced to the final round on Saturday. Only event winners in the finals qualified to advance to the state final meet.
Greenfield-Central was the team sectional champion. Centerville placed fourth, Hagerstown placed eighth and Richmond placed ninth. The state meet is Friday, Feb. 27, and Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Chase Roland, Thatcher Anderson-Thompson, Devon Whaley and Eli Brummitt placed second.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Whaley, Roland, Eli West and Brummitt placed second.
Whaley won the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard freestyle.
Roland placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke and sixth in the 200 IM.
Brummitt placed second in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Thompson-Anderson placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Hagerstown

The 200-yard medley relay team of Connor DeBruler, Davin Chew, Kolby Shafer and Luke Brown placed seventh.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of DeBruler, Joseph Dusek, Brown and Shafer placed fourth.
Shafer placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle.
DeBruler placed third in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
Richmond
The 200-yard medley relay team of Layton Smith, Jude Lakamp, Cooper Smith and Jordan Light placed eighth.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Light, Lakamp, Cooper Smith and Layton Smith placed eighth.
Layton Smith placed second in the 200 yard IM and second in the 500 yard freestyle.

In the diving competition, West placed second and Sheldon Smith placed third. Both advanced to the Brownsburg regional in an attempt to qualify for the state meet.
