Richmond Jazz Orchestra and Kiwanis Club of Richmond are combining to raise funds to benefit young people at their fifth annual musical gathering at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
The musicians are volunteering their time for “Big Band Saturday Night 5,” which includes danceable hits from the 1940s through 1980s.
Tickets are $30 per person. Sponsors are covering event costs, so the full ticket price benefits Riley Children’s Health’s statewide program to address what Kiwanis Club of Richmond describes as a mental health crisis among Indiana’s youth.
Nearly 400 people attended last year’s gathering, and the club raised a record $20,500 for Riley. The event’s four-year total is $69,100.
Music starts at 7 p.m. in First Bank Richmond Kuhlman Center, 861 N. Salisbury Road in Richmond. Steve Stoller will conduct the 18-piece orchestra and six singers.
Until 9:30 p.m., the RJO will perform about two hours of tunes.
Guests can sit and chat over cake and snacks and get out on the lighted dance floor if desired.
Advance ticket purchase at richmondkiwanis.com/bbsn is strongly advised; tickets will be sold at the door if available.
