The Richmond Red Devils and the Muncie Central Bearcats, two teams that are familiar with each other, opened play in the Greenfield-Central sectional on Tuesday, March 3.

The two teams met on Jan. 16, during regular-season play, with the Red Devils taking a 66-64 win. But Tuesday, the Bearcats avenged the loss 56-47 and eliminated the Red Devils from postseason play.

The game was much closer than the final score indicates. The game was tied six times in the first half before the Bearcats took a 26-23 halftime lead. A conventional three-point play from Quentin Lopeman halfway through the third quarter cut the Richmond deficit to 32-30 before the Bearcats started to pull away.

Thomas Stargell

Shamar Taylor led the Bearcats and all game scores with 19 points and Jaxson Johnson scored 14 points. Thomas Stargell scored 13 points to lead Richmond and Jeravion Johnson-Phillips scored 10 points.

The Red Devils will return substantial talent next season, but it was the final game in a Red Devil basketball uniform for seniors Dominick McKinley-Bigalk, Eli Hubbard, Marveice Harris, Treston Bennett and Gunner Stolle.
