This page outlines how Western Wayne News uses social media platforms, and our approach to engaging with our readers through these channels.

How We Use Social Media

We primarily use our social media accounts to share links to our reporting located on our website at WesternWayneNews.com. Except in certain breaking news situations, we do not post original reporting directly on social media platforms.

We do not have the staff capacity to regularly monitor and engage with readers on our social media accounts, and might not see questions, requests, tags or comments left in those spaces. Those wishing to contact us or submit items for consideration should use one of our published contact methods.

The list of accounts that we choose to follow on a given social media platform is not representative of what organizations, topics or issues we prioritize in our reporting.

We sometimes share posts or information from other social media accounts as a public service. This sharing does not constitute an endorsement of the content of those posts, or indicate that the information has been reviewed in depth for accuracy or completeness by the Western Wayne News team.

Reader Engagement Guidelines

When people choose to engage with activity on our social media accounts through commenting or other interaction, we hope they do so in a constructive, respectful manner. As a part of our commitment to encouraging public dialog that is based in fact, constructively improves our community and that limits or reduces harm to others, we will take action to remove or limit the distribution of certain kinds of reader interactions, including:

  • Comments that include personal attacks, libel, or defamation.
  • Comments that include or encourage hate speech, harassment or violence against others.
  • Promotion of commercial services or product offerings.
  • Comments that include blatant misinformation, unfounded conspiracy theories or demonstrably false or misleading statements.
  • Comments including profanity or that might be obscene, objectionable or inappropriate for our readers who include young people and families, or that promote sexual content, products or services.
  • Attempts to circumvent our paid subscription offerings by reproducing articles, photos and other content we publish in full, in part or in summary form without our explicit permission.

Our actions may include one or more of: hiding comments, deleting comments, requiring moderation for comments, or blocking or banning an account from following or interacting with our accounts. We do not have the staff capacity to provide notifications, warnings or explanations of these actions.

On some social media platforms, we may also make use of automated moderation tools that apply certain criteria to determine if a given comment or interaction should be hidden, moderated or deleted. That could include the presence of profanity, suspicious links, comments from new accounts or accounts with limited profile information, or comments from accounts that have recently had comments removed/hidden by our team.

If you believe your engagement with one of our social media accounts has been limited or deleted by mistake, please send details via one of our contact methods.
