Richmond Police Department is offering its 28th Citizen Police Academy in August.
Applications are due Aug. 9 for the program, which is offered from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays from Aug. 13-Oct. 8. Most classes are at the Richmond Municipal Building, 50 N. Fifth St.
Residents and business owners are invited to get an accurate look at police work and the criminal justice system through sessions on patrol techniques, crime prevention, traffic enforcement, defense tactics, SWAT, bike patrol, 911 dispatch center, K9 unit, drug task force and other departments.
It’s open to those who just want to learn more about the police department as well as those who might want to volunteer or pursue a career in law enforcement.
Applicants must be at least 18 and live or work in the Wayne County area. They must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor in the last 5 years and have no felony convictions. Applicants are subject to background checks and/or interviews before acceptance.
