Dexter Chambers, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord Monday, August 29, 2022, at Reid Health surrounded by his family.
Dexter was born November 6, 1933, in Winfield, Tennessee, to Lark and Sarah Acres Chambers. He worked over 40 years as a brick mason and was a 50-year member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union. For the last 15 years, Dexter had owned and operated Dexter Chambers Masonry. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War and was a former member of the American Legion Harry Ray Post #65. Dexter loved fishing, building, auctions, and collecting antiques.
Survivors include his wife of almost 66 years, Juanita M. Robinson Chambers, to whom he was married December 31, 1956; son, Gary (Donna) Chambers of Sugar Land, Texas; two grandchildren, Monica (Johnathon) Barras of Conroe, Texas; James Chambers of Sugar Land, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Loren VanVeckhoven and Zachary Swendowski; two special sisters-in-law, Norma Robinson Patterson and Peggy Robinson; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Berniece Grimes, Marie Stines, and Ruby Terry; four brothers, Ancil, Lloyd, Earl, and Joe Chambers.
Visitation for Dexter Chambers will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. James M. Webb officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.
