Jerry Ray Smith, 71, of New Castle passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial in Muncie. He was born January 18, 1951 in Alpine, Tennessee, a son of the late Clevis and Nova Smith.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Viet Nam War. He had been employed at Modernfold Corp. for several years. Jerry raised beagles, loved fishing and coached basketball & baseball. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and camping. He was a devoted spouse and was always there for his family. Jerry had a great sense of humor and loved his cat, Charlotte.
Survivors include his spouse, Dottie K. Deck of New Castle; Dottie’s children who were like sons to Jerry, Brad (Theresa) Deck, Scott (Amy) Deck and Bryan Deck (Melissa White); sister, Linda (Paul) Martin; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy & Junior Smith.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2022 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Military rites provided by U.S. Army, VFW and American Legion.
