Buford Samuel “Bo” Hughes, 78, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
Bo was born in Goddard, Kentucky on January 5, 1944 to Claud & Frances McCormick. After their deaths when he was very young, Bo was welcomed into the home of Clayton & Ruby Rock Hughes, who raised him.
Bo attended Richmond High School and graduated from Ivy Tech in 1982 with a degree in Machine Tool. He worked in various factories through the years and retired from PTC Alliance in 2011. He was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Richmond and had been active in the Richmond Emmaus Community. Bo enjoyed being around people and if you knew him, you loved him. Many friends of the Hughes family looked up to him as a father figure who treated them as they were a part of his family.
Bo enjoyed going fishing and watching Westerns. It was said that he would rather play cards than eat. He enjoyed taking his family on weekend camping trips. The Hughes family owned Clown & Company and was active with Easter Seals. He enjoyed spreading smiles as “Bo the Clown” and also served as a Santa Claus at Christmas time.
Bo will be missed by his wife of 46 years, the former Jo Ann Chastain; daughter, Jackie Roth; grandson, Jacob Roth. He will also be missed by his honorary grandson, Bryson Stevens; sister, Roberta McCormick; and special friends, Tom & Karen Stuckey.
Bo was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Robin; in-laws, Ilene & Bill Chastain; and siblings Junior McCormick, Mary Richmond and Ronnie McCormick.
