Norma G. York, age 88, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, April 28th at Reid Health, after a long battle with dementia.
She was born July 24th, 1932, in Cold Springs, Kentucky, to Roy and Isabelle Durham Cooper.
Norma married Bob York, August 26th, 1950. God blessed them with one daughter after having two stillborn babies and one miscarriage.
In the early years she worked at Nobles Shoe Store, Decca Records and Highland Heights School.
She was privileged to travel much of the United States with her husband. They made many memories with friends and family of all their camping trips. She was known for cooking and entertaining often.
Norma lived a dedicated Christian life. She was the pianist for many years under Pastor’s Jerry Callahan and Elthur Hale. She was very involved in all the church activities. She hosted many family prayer meetings at her home.
Before moving into Brookdale Senior Living, she was attending King’s Highway Holiness Church, Pastor Jim Webb.
Norma was very proud of her two granddaughters and four great grandchildren; they were the light of her life.
Norma is survived by daughter: Tonya (Tom) Marcum of Richmond, IN; granddaughters: Tiffany Waters of Richmond, IN, and Tasha (Josh) Dugger of Mooreland, IN; great grandchildren: Talen and Trigg Waters and Jenson and Berkley Dugger; sister: Rohama Rogers of Alexandria, KY; brother: Gary Cooper of Independence, KY; and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years: Bob York who died August 1st, 1996; two sisters: Lodema Webb and Alma Barnes; four brothers: Paul, Howard, Richard and Wendell Cooper.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living for their care of Norma these past few years. Also to Sarah Rice, her caregiver prior to moving into Brookdale.
Public visitation will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene, Monday, May 3, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Cemetery.
