Jon Randall Luethje, 74, of Connersville, passed away Saturday evening, January 9, 2021 at Reid Health, Richmond.
He was born June 17, 1946, to Marjorie Norton of Des Moines, IA, and Patrick Henry Lane of Newport News, Virginia, and was later adopted by Elmer Luethje.
Jon grew up being called Randy in Perry, Iowa, where he graduated from High School. He entered the Air Force during the Viet Nam war, and served in Korea. After honorable discharge he attended Drake University and entered the Army Reserves where he worked as a librarian.
Jon was a man of faith and had a life rich in relationships. He was known to be intelligent and kind. He was a loving husband and father/grandfather. He enjoyed reading and discussing theology and philosophy. He like Sci-Fi, Dr Who, and he played drums in a country band in Florida called Sweet the Sound.
As a member of the Quaker faith, he worked for American Friends Service Committee as a printer, and he later attending Earlham School of Religion where he met and married Kathy in 1994.
He has driven over the road trucks, worked at Bayfront Medical Center in St Petersburg, FL, taken chaplain training in Tampa, and co-pastored with Kathy at Bloomingdale Friends in Bloomingdale, IN.
Jon retired in Connersville, Indiana, in 2017 after suffering a stroke. In 2020 he went into Caroleton Manor nursing facility. He passed away at Reid Health, Richmond after contracting the COVID virus.
He is survived by four sisters, Jean Luethje Maddox, Sue Lane Maxwell, Patti Lane Graham, and Carole Lane Hicks; one brother, Greg Luethje; two sons, Matthew Jon Luethje and Micah Jon Luethje; Jon’s wife Kathy Creamer Byrne Luethje; ex-wives, Judith DeVries, and Judy Brokaw; 23 grandchildren and extended families.
He was preceded in death by his mother, both fathers, son, Nathan Jon, and one grandchild.
A private graveside service at Dale Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. A public memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church in Connersville, Pastor Frank Oakman presiding.
