John Todd, age 79, of Richmond, died Monday evening, December 21, 2020 at his residence. John was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 28, 1941 to Charles and Mable (Parlow) Todd. After graduating from high school, John served in the U.S. Army for two years and then began an extensive educational process. He attended Santa Monica City College for two years and then UCLA for three years where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1967. John then enrolled at USC where he received a Master’s Degree in Library Science. He then attended the Pacific School of Religion in Berkley receiving a Masters in Theology Degree in 1986. He lived in Finland where he taught English for nine years before moving back to the States in 1995. While in Finland he married his first wife in 1990. John studied computer science at DaPage College and then Hospital Chaplaincy at Good Samaritan Hospital in Chicago. He moved to Richmond in 1999 and received a Master of Divinty degree from Earlham School of Religion in 2004. John pastored at the Friends Church in Xenia, Ohio for four years. He also served as an instructor for Ivy Tech Community College.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Duning, whom he married on November 23, 2010. He is also survived by one brother, Charles Todd, of Phoenix, Arizona. In addition to his parents, a sister, Mary Pendergast, is also deceased.
There will be a memorial service for John on Saturday January 9, 2021 at 1:00pm at Faith United Lutheran Church, 4015 National Road West Richmond. Pastor John Place will officiate. All friends are welcome, please follow CDC guidelines regarding Covid-19.
