Helen (Holcomb) Gossage, 93, a long-time resident of Mooreland and New Castle, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Medina, Ohio.
She was born on February 16, 1927 in Mooreland, Indiana, a daughter of the late Robert Glen and Bernetha (Houser) Holcomb.
Following High School in Mooreland, Helen married the love of her life, Willard “Dude” Gossage in 1946. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage and moved with Dude’s employment to Ohio, Chicago, and Texas. Upon his death in 1996, Helen returned to New Castle where she lived for 21 years until recently moving to be close to her daughter in Ohio. While in Texas, Helen worked in client services for Fast Tax Company. She greatly enjoyed gardening, flowers, bird watching, and cleaning. She was known as “Mrs. Clean.”
Those left to cherish Helen’s memory include her daughter, Sandra “Sonnie” (Alec) Morrison of Hinckley, Ohio; Five grandsons, Eric Morrison of Brunswick, Ohio, Greg Morrison of Spring Hill, Florida, Doug (Kate) Morrison of Brunswick, Ohio, Jonathan Gossage, and David Gossage of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three great-granddaughters, Tiffany, Alexis, and Sydney Morrison; two great-great-grandchildren, Savannah and Jaxon. One of 10 children, Helen is also survived by a brother, Larry Holcomb of New Castle; two sisters, Norma Crandall and Dorothy Pope both of New Castle and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Willard “Dude” Gossage, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Gossage of Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2019, and six brothers and sisters, Harold Holcomb, Richard “Dickie” Holcomb, Robert “Bud” Holcomb, Elden Holcomb, Betty Fleming, and Mary Lou Cartwright.
Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family at Mooreland Cemetery.
