Roy Elbe Stephens (also known a s, “Buddy,” “Shorty,” “Flash,” “Pipee”) went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 12th., his residence with family and close friends by his side after a very brief illness.
He was born March 13th., 1934 in Slickford, Kentucky to Sherman and Abbie (Raines) Stevens.
As a young man, he worked at Howards Drive Inn, Bestever Dairy, and Yellow Cab Taxi as a driver, where he met many lifelong friends. He retired from Dana Corporation after 26 years of service. He was very well known in New Castle by many friends over the years as “Little Buddy,” “Shorty,” “Flash,” “Dad,” “Grandpa,” “Pipee,” “Pops.” He loved just sitting on his front porch or Broad Street watching traffic and smoking his pipe. He enjoyed his little dog, Wooly Foot and his bird, Oscar. He treated and talked to them like they were his children. He loved going to McDonalds each morning with his best friend, Bobby (Brenda) Duvall and visiting his morning friends for coffee where they would reminisce about old times. He and Bobby would sometimes stay so long that they then would get lunch and go to the park just to watch the ducks and horses and have lunch. He loved his front porch, the outdoors, his pets, his family and friends. He never met a stranger nor an enemy in his 86 years of his precious life.
He had five children with the late Gladys (Bertram) Ramseyer and is survived by three children, a son, Richard (Jill) Stephens; two daughters, Royetta (late, Nacho) Page and Renita Stephens; 12 grandchildren, Krista (Jake) Fewell, Melisa (Mike) Keller, Josh (Melissa) Stephens, Jake (Chelsea) Stephens, Abby (Jon) Strong, Amy (David Logsdon) Page, Carey (Rex) Alvarado, Tiffany Page, Shay Dishman, Autumn Sunshine, Sam (Amanda) Fitpatrick, April (Rev. Mark) Thompson; 17 great-grandchildren, Alycia (Austin) Horn, Ben, Lucas, Trey, Collin, Wyatt, Maggie, Savannah, Bradyn, Andrew, Zack, Mallory, Haeden, December, Gracie, Emma, Tobi; one great-great-grandson, Axtyn; his beloved dog, Wooly Foot; his bird, Oscar; one amazing friend, Bobby Duvall; many nieces, nephews and cousins from Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Russell Stephens; a daughter, Regina (Fitzpatrick) Jones, both from New Castle; two sisters, Marie Piercy of Monticello, Kentucky, Mary Lee Perkins of New Castle.
Roy had resided in Indiana for 60+ years. He was liked by many and loved by all. He will be sadly missed.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18th., 2020 at Macer-Hall-Marcum & Moffitt Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street Chapel with Pastor Paul Davis officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 17th., 2020 at the funeral home chapel on Main Street. Service will be livestreamed over facebook.
