The undefeated Hagerstown Tigers moved one step closer to the Tri-Eastern Conference championship with a 39-6 win over visiting Winchester on Friday, Oct 2.

The Tigers methodically overpowered the Falcons on both sides of the ball, using their pass game and stifling defense to control the game’s flow. Hagerstown built a 19-0 halftime lead and tacked on 20 more points in the third quarter.

Graham Vinson attempted 25 passes and connected on 20 of them, including five touchdowns, and a season high of 305 yards. Vinson threw touchdown passes to Mason Hunt, Cooper Porter and Nick Tinkle. He threw two touchdown passes to Fletcher Callahan. With his performance, Vinson, a junior, moved to within 76 yards of the 3,000 yard passing plateau for his career.

Mason Hunt (30) eludes a tackle and heads to the end zone.

Tinkle was the leading Hagerstown receiver, hauling in five passes for 104 yards.

The Tigers also picked up 87 yards rushing. Hunt led with 10 carries for 43 yards and a rushing touchdown. Carlos Delgas kicked three PATs.

The defense contained the Falcons’ run game, limiting them to a single touchdown late in the third quarter on a 3-yard run by their feature back Joey Vasquez.

Cale Schmitz led the Tigers with 15 tackles. Arlen Berger and Kaden Hall each had nine tackles, and Gus Golliher and Tinkle each had eight. Lineman Heath Johnson intercepted a pass.

There were more than 20 penalties called in the physical battle.

Hagerstown head coach Scott Snodgrass wasn’t satisfied with that after the game.

“I am happy we won,” Snodgrass said. “But, I was not happy with the penalties we received. Fundamentally, we played well, but I was not happy with our conduct at times. We will fix that this week.”

The Tigers have a chance to clinch the outright conference title with a win at Tri High on Friday, Oct. 9.
