Bio highlights: I am a proud 2002 Lincoln High School graduate. I retired from the Indianapolis International Airport Fire Department in 2021. My current position is a Paramedic Supervisor with Reid Health EMS and have been employed with them since 2019.
Reasons you ran: Two specific reasons I decided to run for Western Wayne School Board are for advocacy for Western Wayne students and accountability to the Western Wayne families and community. As a parent, my belief is that every student deserves support, opportunities and resources to succeed regardless of their individual challenges. Additionally, I also believe our community deserves accountability, transparency, and open communication from the school district. Growing up in this community and now raising my children here, I want to be a voice for students and families and help ensure Western Wayne school district continues forward in a positive direction.
Top priorities: If elected, my top three priorities for my time in office would be student success, transparency and accountability, and supporting effective district leadership and staff resources. I will advocate for all students to have the opportunities and resources needed to succeed including students with special education needs. I believe families and community members deserve open communication within the school district. Also, I want to ensure district leadership and staff have the resources, support, and professional development needed to succeed while maintaining accountability, responsible budgeting, and clear expectations that keep student success at the center of every school board decision.
Specific skills: If elected, two specific skills I would bring to the Western Wayne School Board to benefit constituents would be advocacy and informed decision making. I believe it is best to listen to students, families, teachers and staff, and community members to ensure that their concerns are heard and represented. I will ensure important questions are asked, and thoroughly recognize policies, facts, and community input so that responsible decisions are made for our students and district.
Should continue: One aspect of the Western Wayne School Board that I feel is working well is the board’s commitment to providing opportunities for student success such as various academic and career pathways. If elected to the board, I would continue to support these opportunities and ensure they continue to meet student needs and support future success for our students and district.
Needs to change: One aspect of the Western Wayne School Board that I feel needs to change is transparency. Families and community members in our district should have clear and honest information regarding board decisions and how those decisions impact our school district. If elected, I would push for consistent communication regarding district priorities, board actions, and rationales for major board decisions.
Accept election results: Yes, I will accept the results of the election process and will continue to support Western Wayne School District and remain committed to advocating for success.
Funding strategies: If elected as a board member, I would prioritize fiscal responsibility and future planning as state and federal funds become limited with the focus on how students will be impacted. I believe it is important to ask questions regarding spending priorities, and ensure resources are guided on student needs and services. I feel it would be important to support the district leadership in pursuing alternative funding options such as applicable grants and being proactive for future financial challenges. I strongly believe that it is important to be transparent so the community understands how tax dollars are being spent. I am committed to being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars while supporting the need for resources and opportunities for our students to be successful.
Engaging the public: Beyond public meetings, I would encourage community involvement through surveys and open communication. The survey results should be available for open discussion with board members and allow the community the opportunity to ask questions. My commitment is to be accessible to families and community members, listen to concerns, and bring those concerns to the board table. Transparency is essential to ensure our community has a voice in decisions that will affect students and the school district.
