The Tigers remained unbeaten in Tri-Eastern Conference play and improved to 5-0 overall with a 62-6 victory over host Cambridge City Lincoln Friday, Sept. 18, in a Tri-Eastern Conference game.
The Tigers scored early and often to build a 49-0 halftime lead that triggered a running clock in the second half.
A pass play from Graham Vinson for a 29-yard touchdown to Jaxon Hale at the 9:21 mark started the scoring. A 27-yard TD pass from Vinson to Cooper Porter, a 27-yard TD run from Porter and a 41-yard TD pass from Vinson to Nick Tinkle gave the Tigers a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Tinkle intercepted a pass and returned it 49 yards for a pick-six. Three minutes later Vinson connected with Tinkle for a 30-yard TD and three minutes after that threw a 40-yard TD pass to Tinkle to push the halftime lead to 49-0.
Vinson retired to the bench after completing six of seven passing attempts for 165 yards and five touchdowns, and he did not return to the game.
The Tigers added to their lead in the third quarter. Arlin Berger scored on a 20-yard quarterback keeper and Brody Benson added a 21-yard touchdown run. Eight of nine PAT attempts from Calvin Delgas ballooned the score to 62-0 entering the fourth quarter.
After being held in check by the Tiger defense in the first three quarters, the Lincoln offense started to move the ball in the fourth quarter. Ryan Riggs broke free for a 28-yard touchdown run with 3:36 remaining in the game to make the final score 62-6.
Lincoln head coach Chad Bowman said the Eagles had to make some last-minute assignment adjustments. “We had four starters out tonight and we had to move players into positions they were not used to playing,” Bowman said. “I am proud of the way they responded against a good team. We will continue to move forward and work to improve.”
Hagerstown head coach Scott Snodgrass said he had no complaints. “We played with as many kids as we could,” Snodgrass said. “I am proud of how the kids played and their conduct on the field. We are just trying to get better every week.”
