As Wayne County residents assess damage and other impacts from Wednesday’s flooding, community organizations have been organizing relief efforts.

Volunteering
Cambridge City Christian Church gym, 106 W. Church St., is serving as the headquarters for volunteer efforts in Cambridge City. If you wish to volunteer, visit that location or call 765-478-5123.
Donations
Financial donations can be made to the Wayne County Cares Fund, established at the Wayne County Foundation to provide support to communities affected by disasters.
Donations will be distributed directly to communities impacted by the flooding.
Donations are being accepted online, in person at the Foundation office or by mail, 33 South 7th Street, Richmond, IN 47374. For more information, call 765-962-1638.
If you would like your donation to support a specific community, select “designated purpose” when making your donation and indicate the community you wish to support.
Cambridge City Christian Church is accepting donations to help flooding victims through its website. Select the “Flood Relief” fund.
Be cautious about sending funds to unverified recipients claiming to raise funds for survivors.
Resident resources
If you have a non-emergency and need the police or water, call 765-478-1231. Call 911 if it’s an emergency.
Cambridge City Christian Church, 106 W. Church St., is offering food and clothing for anyone in need. Some water may be available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided for the next several days. Breakfast will be served from 8-10 a.m. Golden Corral will provide lunch around noon. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be available from 4-7 p.m.
Residents needing drinking water can visit the Cambridge City Volunteer Fire Department, 127 W. Maple St. One case per resident address.
Canal Event Center, 107 W. Main St. in Cambridge City, is offering a donation station where residents can pick up needed items.
The Hagerstown Fire Department and the Jefferson Township Trustee’s Office are hosting a spaghetti dinner for anyone in need of food, Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Meeting Place, 11 E. Main St.
The Community Emergency Relief Room at Central United Methodist Church in Richmond has donated clothing available to flood victims. Call 765-277-0287 to arrange a time to meet at the church for assistance.
Nettle Creek Schools students in need of items such as clothing, shoes or hygiene products lost to flooding, email Superintendent Emily Schaeffer at eschaeffer@nettlecreek.k12.in.us for potential connections with community resources.
Rock Solid Ministries in Richmond can provide some hygiene items to flooding victims, along with some clothing from its thrift store. Call 765-962-5099 for more information.
Pizza 3.14, 1200 W. National Road in Cambridge City, offered free food to first responders Thursday and then expanded its offer to any resident working in flood damage after receiving a substantial donation to help others.
Red Cross has established an emergency shelter at the Kuhlman Center at the Wayne County Fairgrounds for individuals and families who need immediate assistance.
On Friday, Aug. 14, the Amish community will offer free breakfast at 8 a.m. at The Meeting Place, 11 E. Main St., Hagerstown. Nettle Creek Community Coalition’s food pantry will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 47 E. Main St.
Disaster relief supply collection
Canal Event Center, 107 W. Main St. in Cambridge City, is collecting non-perishable food, water bottles, toiletries, diapers and cleaning supplies for residents in need.
A collection for disaster relief supplies to help Western Wayne residents is also open Thursday and Friday in Richmond.
Wayne County’s new Community Organizations Active in Disaster effort is collecting items at Central United Methodist Church, 1425 E. Main St., Richmond.
Wayne County Emergency Management Agency shared COAD’s information.
Items can be delivered to the west side of the church between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Useful items include:
Cleaning supplies: Buckets, brooms, mops, industrial-strength trash bags, heavy tarps, rubber gloves, rakes, concentrated cleaners, hard hats, ponchos, work gloves, scoop shovels, rubber boots, masks and nylon ropes
Essentials: Batteries, toothbrushes and paste, washcloths, towels, flashlights, bottled water and hand sanitizer, new socks, new undergarments
Baby items: Diapers, jarred food, wipes, mixed food (water needed), lotions
Food: Individual servings of juice, soft drinks and snacks
Organizers say that used clothing is rarely useful to collect and send into disaster areas because it’s difficult to clean, sort, transport, sort and distribute, and that mounds of clothing take up valuable warehouse space and frequently end up being discarded.
