If you run, the Wayne County Challenge may be for you.
The Wayne County Challenge is a nonprofit organization that promotes community health through amateur distance running. In addition to the potential health benefit for participating runners, each race benefits a charitable cause.
Eight races are scheduled for this year, and three have been completed. The Girls Inc. 5K race was held on May 16, the Fireworks 5K was held on June 26 and the Run with the Wolves 5K was held on July 18.
The events draw a diverse age group of participants. There are competing runners younger than nine years old and from 75 to over 80 years old.
Upcoming races include Heartbreak Hill 5K on Aug. 8, Hometown Hustle on Sept. 19, Monster Mash on Oct. 10, the Pat Bowers 7K Turkey Chase on Nov. 14 and the Rosemary Weigel Frostbite 5K on Dec. 5.
