The Northeastern Knights, who will be leaving the conference at the end of the current season, collected both team championship trophies in their last appearance at the Tri-Eastern Conference track and field meet for both boys and girls on May 12. For the Knight boys it was the fifth time they have won the TEC track meet, but the first time since 1999. The Lady Knights were TEC champions for the first time.
There were two triple winners. Tanner Paddock from Union County finished first in the 800 meter, 1600 and the 3,200 meter. Carter Campbell from Winchester won the 200 meter, the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles.
Northeastern head coach Tyler Hostetler was happy for his teams. “We had some stellar athletes who have the ability to get a lot of firsts and seconds,” Hostetler said. “In a big meet like this, that helps propel the team forward. It is a thrill for our kids to win the TEC in our last year. Especially the girls. Tonight is the first time our girls program has ever won the girls meet. From 1974 to tonight is a long time to wait.”
