A Richmond third grader’s interest in the Wright brothers led him to write an award-winning essay.

Luke Hiltner was honored during April’s East Central District meeting of the Association of Indiana Counties in Shelbyville. His essay, which he read at the meeting, won the district competition meant for fourth graders.

In his essay, Hiltner, who attends the LOGOS program at Hibberd, praised Orville and Wilbur Wright’s perseverance and inventiveness. He credited their initial airplane flight with leading to his ability to fly to the Czech Republic and visit grandparents and cousins.

Competitors were to write about a person, place or thing in their counties that have historical significance. The Wright brothers lived in Richmond.
