Volunteers are getting the Richmond Rose Garden ready for the growing season by pruning bushes, clearing beds and preparing plantings in the Glen Miller Park space that features more than 100 rose varieties.
The garden, now nearly 40 years old, is free and open daily and is designed to be accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities. Its mission includes fostering a love of rose gardening while providing education for the public.
More information about the organization and how to get involved is available at RichmondRoseGarden.com.
At the same time, Richmond Parks and Recreation is seeking donations to restore the garden’s E.G. Hill fountain. The department aims to raise at least $50,000 by April 30 for the project, which is part of its 2020 master plan.
Through the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority’s Creating Places program, donations can be matched up to $50,000. Contributions are capped at $10,000 per donor.
Donations can be made online at wwn.to/hillfountainfix or mailed to Richmond Parks and Recreation, 50 N. Fifth St., Richmond, IN 47374, with “E.G. Hill Rose Garden Fountain Restoration” noted on the check.
